What is AR Selector

The AR selector is the selector switch on an AR-15 rifle. It is a small lever usually located on the lower receiver of the weapon, near the grip. The selector allows the shooter to choose between different modes of fire, such as semi-automatic fire, and full-automatic fire, and the selector physically interacts with the internal components of the firearm to control how it operates when the trigger is pulled.

How the AR15 selector works?

The selector switch on an AR-15, like many other firearms, controls the firing mode. Here's how it typically works:

Safe: When the selector is in the "Safe" position, it mechanically blocks the trigger from being pulled, thus preventing the gun from firing. This mode is typically denoted by the letter "S" or by a pictogram of a crossed-out semicircle.

Semi-Automatic: In the "Semi-Automatic" position, the firearm fires one round each time the trigger is pulled and released. This mode is often marked with the letter "S" or a single bullet.

Automatic (or Burst Fire): Some AR-15 variants offer a third firing mode, which is either fully automatic or burst fire. In "Automatic" mode, the firearm continues to fire repeatedly as long as the trigger is held down. In "Burst Fire" mode, a predetermined number of rounds (usually 2 or 3) are fired with each pull of the trigger. This mode is usually marked with the letter "A" for automatic or a series of bullets for burst fire.

The selector switch physically moves internal components within the firearm to engage or disengage different mechanisms, allowing for different firing modes.

AR Switch Shooting Advantage?

Versatility: The ability to switch between different firing modes allows the shooter to adapt to various situations. For example, semi-automatic modes are good for precision shooting and conserving ammunition, while automatic or burst firing is beneficial in situations where rapid or sustained fire is required, such as in close combat or suppressive fire.

SAFETY: The selector switch includes a "safety" position that mechanically blocks the trigger and prevents the gun from accidentally discharging. This enhances safety during handling, transportation and storage.

CONTROL: By selecting the proper firing mode, the shooter can better control the shot and more effectively control recoil. This is especially important for maintaining accuracy and minimizing muzzle rise during rapid fire.
